Small Community/Small Church Evangelism
Session 1 - "Understanding the Small Church" - Chris Townsend
The smaller member church as a faith community possesses unique personality, characteristics and challenges. Understanding the nature of that uniqueness is essential to church health, effectiveness, and growth.
Session 2 - "The Externally Focused Small Church" - Dennis Conner
Because fellowship and relationships are strengths of the smaller member church, it's easier for the church to develop an inward focus. This class will challenge to church to look outward as well and will share practical ways to make the heart of God known in the community.
Session 3 - "Small Enough To Care" - Terry Graves
One of the things that people are seeking today is authentic community. Smaller member churches are uniquely qualified to provide the relational care and nurturing that people need and are seeking.
Reaching Out To Others
Session 1a - "Friendship Evangelism In Action" - Mike Dublin
"But I don't know enough to teach someone," is the reason (and it may be valid) that you and I may give for not seeing our role in evangelism. However, some of us are good at inviting, some are hospitable at church and home, some are good helpers or card writers, some are good about telling their own story, and some can teach. Learn how working together with our gifts we can use friendship principles to carry the word of Christ to others.
Session 1b - "One-On-One Principles" - Rob Giesbers
When we do venture into teaching another person about Christ, what are some of the things we should and should not do? Where do we start? What are the topics that we should cover? How do we bring up conversion issues? Besides teach, what else should we do? What happens after baptism? This session will give insights to such issues.
Session 2a - "Friend Speak in the Local Community" - Debby Bentley
Although you may not speak a foreign language, you probably know enough English to teach others through Friend Speak. You may be able to support and encourage others who are involved in these programs. In this session, you will learn why foreign visitors and new citizens welcome this program and how you can be involved.
Session 2b - "Small Group Principles and Examples" - Barrett Mills
It is amazing how easily barriers fall, friendships develop, and God's word can be taught through small groups in our neighborhood and community. See from the example given in this session, how a small group can work. A copy of the lessons being used in this small group will be given to attendees in this track.
Session 3 - "Overcoming Obstacles In Personal Evangelism" - Panel
Not only individuals but congregations have fears and obstacles to overcome in personal evangelism efforts. This discussion period with the presenters will give insight and encouragement for overcoming these obstacles.
Finding My Role In World Missions
Session 1a - "Eastern European Mission" - Merle Grizzell
The EEM is placing Bibles and Biblical literature in over 1000 schools in Europe and is spreading the Gospel to thousands. Learn how you and your congregation can be a part of this effort.
Session 1b - "Using FriendSpeak in Foreign Countries" - Mark Stephens
Although you may not speak a foreign language, you probably know enough English to teach others through Friend Speak. You may be able to support and encourage others who are involved in these programs. In this session, you will learn why foreign countries welcome this program and how you can be involved.
Session 2a - "Russian University Work" - Paul Watson
Christ and his word are making inroads into Russia, previously an atheistic country. Importantly, some of these gains are at Russia's highest academic levels. Learn about these exciting happenings.
Session 2b - "Making 'MISSION' A Personal Adventure" - Tony/Janet Forrest
Tony and Janet Forrest spent three years sharing the gospel behind the bamboo curtain in Communist China. They will share this opportunity and their experiences there, as they talk with you about taking the "fear" out of "foreign".
Session 3 - "Examples - Individual Experiences" - Panel
Individuals will give short glimpses of the foreign mission experiences.
Reaching Those With Special Needs
Session 1a - "Special Groups In Your Community" - David Mills
Who are the special groups in our community that we can serve and to whom we can spread the gospel? David will introduce us to the changing demographics of the Mid-Atlantic States. He will also tell us where and how to find out more about our own community and how to use this information.
Session 1b - "Example - Special Needs Children" - Barry/Paula Woodhouse
Few churches (of any persuasion) know how to serve special needs children (those with autism, physical and mental limitations, etc.) and fewer yet have special programs to meet these needs. This session will give an example of a program that attempts to meet these needs while reaching out to families in an evangelistic manner.
Session 2a - "Reaching the Hispanic Community" - Willie Costa
As more and more Spanish-speaking families move into our communities, the Lord gives us more and more opportunities to serve and evangelize. This session will provide one example of how we can reach out to this community.
Session 2b - "Friend Speak in the Local Community" - Donna Walls
Most of us do not speak a foreign language fluently. Many visitors and new residents in our community are not fluent in English but want to be. Friend Speak is a way for us to help others learn English and at the same time to learn the good news about Christ. In this session, we can learn about using a Friend Speak program for local evangelism.
Session 3 - "Finding the Right Program" - Panel
None of the above programs may meet out individual needs or the needs of our congregation; therefore, how can we use these models to develop our own programs? Perhaps, we can use this Q&A period to clarify how these programs can be modified for our use.
Sharing the Good News With Our Teens and Their Friends
Session 1 - "Bringing My Child To Christ" - Bill/Joyce Allen, Marilyn Jobe
This session will examine: How to establish a spiritual atmosphere that will not turn off your teen. How and when to study "becoming a Christian." How to start the study - looking for opportunities. What to do if the child brings baptism up first - especially at a younger age. Getting across that a life in Christ is more than baptism.
Session 2 - "Helping Our Children Grow In Christ" - Perry/Debra Cox, Ed/Betty Woodhouse
Discussion will center around creating a Christian home where it is natural to talk in spiritual terms, to pray, etc. Teachers will emphasize helping our children in an addictive world. Discussion will also examine the importance of CBC, Winter Fest, Youth Rallies, doing "non-church" activities together, etc. How to advertise and promote these activities.
Session 3 - "Things Parents Can and Should Not Do" - Panel
After brief comments by each of the speakers, time will be given to generating discussion among all the attendees.
Teen Track
"How To Make Mistakes" - Dennis Conner
Illustrates how "dumb" but normal it is to make mistakes. Discusses motivations and traps that cause one to sin. Separates sin from mistakes.
"How To Avoid Messing Up My Life" - Don McLaughlin
It is amazing how even one sin can mess up a person's life. Building on the first talk, the teen is now introduced to the "secrets" about how not to sin or even make unsinful but wrong choices.
