Amacuapa Valley Missions September 1997 Report: Norberto Otero

Dear friends and supporters,

This information is adapted for your information. I know I keep some of you away from the happenings here. I hope to improve that thru e-mail. Thank you for your continue support to the efforts in the Valley of Amacuapa. Brother Sam Adams is a deacon of missions at Brooks Avenue Church, our sponsoring congregation. If you find misspellings, please forgive me.

Dear Sam,

I know I am month ahead of this "worldly custom"....! =) I am writing you to give you an update in the things happening in the team. This weekend I went to attend a funeral of a dear friend from College and a great servant of the Lord in the kingdom, Michael (Michel) de Aguilar. She used to work at Baxter as an English teacher. We went to Harding together in 1987-88. It was encouraging to see the strength of her surviving husband, Miguel Aguilar. On Monday I went and bought Bibles and Radio Materials for the upcoming radio program called: "Bienaventuranzas: un arcoiris de esperanza para todos" This means Beatitudes: a rainbow of hope for all. We hope to reach over three hundred thousand, six days a week, Monday through Saturday, four thirty minutes. This will be an evangelistic tool of first degree involvement, as well as an encourager for the brethren in all the Department (State) of Olancho and other departments.

On Tuesday we made some changes and met for the organizational meeting and the encouragement section from Monday . It was good, even though we all seemed tired. The churches of Juticalpa, Amacuapa and the chuches in Trujillo had a great fellowship together. In the report of contacts we realize the increasing numbers of visits and Bible studies done by the team. Basically we spent a good bit of time preparing for this week.

Yesterday, Kyle and I met in the morning to discuss the Fact sheet, Mesh Update and the budget information. It is our goal to have these items available for their distributing during my visit to the US. This trip by no means is a vacation for me, for I am schedule to speak at least in two or three congregations, several times on campus, in a campaign and three times in the radio. I do believe that this will help enhance the work here, the kingdom there, and my personal enrichment.

On Wednesday, Eberto and Victor went to San Franciso de la Paz and made fourteen contacts. Some of them are potential candidates for Bible studies. On Saturday Eberto and I will visit some of them again to some follow up. The goal is to establish a church in the near future if that is God's will. This is a ministry that involves three churches, Juticalpa, Amacuapa and Gualaco. Everyone them are excited about this.

Angel and Kyle tried to return to Amacuapa by bus, but it was unabled to cross the river and in th process could not get out of the river bed. It was left behind, in the middle of the current when it was impossible to move, water covered 1/2 of the bus and people fled in despair, including Kyle and Angel. We see the truck as a necessary tool, despite the headaches. Even though our truck is no longer an option. The truck is being used , however, only when necessary, and with a budget of 200.00 lempiras (15.00 dollars) per week. So far it has been good and we are happy. However, the truck is going to Panama to serve my daughter. Anna is going to start school next year and she will need transportation. She is now 3 years old, can you believe that? She turned 3 the 23 of October. I talked to her, she is so active!, she is more fluent with her tongue. She recognizes me and remembers Kyle well. My family is doing well, my mothers continues to attend church and to grow in the knowledge of the word. I beg your prayers for her as she experiences challenges in her new found Way. Also keep my sister Arelis and her husband in your prayers.

On Wednesday night, I taught a class on the Rewards from God at the end of the ages. Today, Kyle, Eberto and Angel are returning to Amacuapa on the truck. Kyle and Angel are taking the bus later in the afternoon to go to Salitre. This week is Kyle's turn, in a way, to accompany Angel to Salitre. There are a number of good contacts. We are doing well. I have peace of mind, we are using our talents well.

We are concern, by 1998 our budget has a deficit of at least 300.00 dollars. We need to find this money before January. I do not know if Kyle has sent you a package of information with the present budget and its categories. Let me know.

I will try to send more as the week passes. I am leaving for the United States October 3rd. to attend first the meeting in Slidell, and then go to York College and Sioux, Iowa.

May God bless you are your family

Your servant in Christ,
