Ad-Aware free utility scans your computer for installed spyware and adware and provides a way to remove it. Use with other utilities to "clean" these destructive programs off your PC.

Spybot Search & Destroy

avast! free Antivirus software

avast! is free for home use. It can be set to automatically update itself with the newest virus definitions. I use and recommend it. http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.html

Microsoft Windows Defender (beta)
Microsoft's Windows Defender is a free program that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software. It features Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it's detected and minimizes interruptions and helps you stay productive.
