Spring 2002 Classes

Sunday Morning Adult Classes

Basic Christian Principles
Bill Betts and Robert McCants - Room 307

This is for new Christians or just anyone desiring a review of foundational principles. The class is ongoing and you may begin at any time. It is based on scripture with discussion following.

Heart to Heart
"Victory over Darkness"
Gary Brown - Room 301/303

Again we offer the "Victory over Darkness" class, especially for those who haven't yet taken it. If you do not know who you are in Christ or if you are struggling with your Christian walk, this class may be right for you! Also, you will learn about renewing your mind and managing your emotions, especially related to the past. Forgiveness and feelings of rejection are two of the subjects. Anyone is welcome to attend. It's sure to encourage and uplift you.

College
Donnie Williams - Room 13

To be announced.

Grands
"Meeting and Imitating Christ"
Larry Claxton - Room 213

In the scriptures we see many different types of people who come face to face with Christ. In these encounters we see how people at different stages of life, and having differing backgrounds, and different motives interact with Christ. We see Christ's response to each person. In this class, we will look for scriptural reasons why people responded in different ways to our Lord and to those who are Christians. We will study Christ's words and actions so that we, like Paul, may imitate Christ in our response to others.

The Book of Acts
Jerry Smiley - Auditorium

Midlifers
Jim Holt - Room 10

"What Jesus said about Money, Sex and Power" is the focus of this class using the four gospels as the basis of study.

Parents with Teens
"Classic Old Testament Stories and What They Tell Us About God and His Purpose"
Trey Weaver - Room 9

Young Married
"The Book of James"
Stan Bennett - Watson Hall

The goal of this class is to study and discuss the context, the purpose and the meaning of the book of James in order to discover ways to "show our faith" and to reflect a Christian lifestyle in the world that glorifies God.

Married with Children
"The book of Colossians"
Edward Constantine - Fails Hall

Sunday Evening Adult Classes

Sermon
Lindsey Garmon - Auditorium

Wednesday Evening Adult Classes

The Gospel of John
Lindsey Garmon - Auditorium

What would it be like to look inside the heart and mind of Jesus? That is what the gospel of John allows us to do. Through power and the inspiration of God's spirit, John reveals the deepest thoughts and weightiest teachings of our teacher and savior. A careful study of the New Testament will change your life forever.

Singing
David Mills - Watson Hall

This is a class for those who want to worship God by learning new songs as well as rejoicing in the old ones.

Thy Word Have I Hid in Mine Heart
Stand Atwood - Room 9

There are numerous spiritual benefits to the memorization of scripture. Peter instructs us to "make every effort to add to our faith goodness, and to goodness knowledge..." (II Peter 1:5). The Psalms demonstrate that David loved and valued scripture more than anything else. Perhaps this is why he was known as a man "after God's own heart." This class is for those who love God's word and desire to commit it to memory. Scripture memorization is an important spiritual discipline that is very rare in the modern church. Participants in this class will study the reasons for memorizing scripture, will learn a systematic method for memorizing and retaining large portions of scripture, and will memorize a text of their own choosing of 80 to 250 verses in length. The goal is not to just memorize scripture but to be taught by it and to use it in our daily struggles against sin.

Divorce Care
Kevin Savage, Rick Holland and Amy Savage - Room 301

This is an ongoing class for both men and women who have experienced the pain of divorce. It is a much needed class for both Christians and non-Christians or friends from other churches. Think about your friends and who might benefit from this outreach.

Justs the One and Only
(just for women)
Coordinated by Debby Bentley, Sherrill Blazer, Julia Hauser, Janice Stuart and Susan Weaver - Room 10

This class is continuing its second trimester of the book of Luke and the Beth Moore Video series. If you wish to join for this second half, please see one of the above coordinators for further details. Homework is expected from the workbook, available for $13 at Lifeway Christian Bookstore at the Centrum Shopping Center in Cary (across from Crossroads) or from other area bookstores (but this might involve a delay). This is a good class for visitors as well as members. The class alternates between a video one week and small group discussions from the workbook the next.
