Fall 2001 Classes

Sunday Morning Adult Classes

Basic Christian Principles
Bill Betts and Robert McCants, Teachers - Room 307

This is a wonderful class for those who are just beginning their walk with the Lord or anyone desiring a review of foundational principles. If you feel the need to take a closer look at the "foundations of faith," this would be a helpful class. For those who would like to ask basic and foundational questions about Christianity, this is the place to be. The class is ongoing and you may begin at any time. It is scripturally based with discussion following.

Heart to Heart
“Overcoming Fear, Worry, and Anxiety”
Gary Brown, Coordinator - Room 301/303

Mental strongholds can dampen our spirits to live a life of joy for Jesus. Worry and fear don’t have to control you. You can find freedom in Christ. (John 8:32) In this class, we will discuss different fears, rational and irrational, and how to break free of these strongholds and panic attacks, and about casting our anxieties on Christ. The core of our phobias can be traced to the fear of death, man or Satan. Renewing our mind is essential and freedom cannot be fully accomplished without the presence of God and fellowship in the Body of Christ.

College
Donnie Williams, Teacher - Room 13
“Living A Calm Life In A Fast Pace World.” Open to all college and college age.

Grands
Richard Thompson, Teacher - Room 213
This class will be exploring “Seeing The Unseen” from a book by Joe Beam.

Role of Men in the Church Class Material
Dan Blazer, Teacher - Auditorium

Some have commented that the number one problem faced by the church as we enter the 21st century is the absence of spiritual leadership by men. Yet the church faces an even deeper problem - the relative absence of men from all spiritual activities in the church and the home. In our class on the role of women in the church, we focused upon the spiritual basis for including or excluding women from leadership positions, activities during worship, and responsibilities in the church. In our class on the role of men in the church, we will focus on the failure of men to fill positions of leadership, to participate in worship, and to accept responsibilities in the church. A central premise of this class is that “masculine” characteristics of our faith, such as discipline, struggle and responsibility, have been neglected by the latter 20th century church. Though these characteristics are relevant to both men and women, their neglect has been especially detrimental to men. Though these characteristics should be expressed by both men and women, they urgently need cultivation by men in the 21st century church. These characteristics include, among others, taking on the role of soldier, caretaker and worker. Men described in the scriptures will serve as examples of these characteristics. The class is directed to both men and women, young and old.

Study of the First Corinthian Letter
Jerry Smiley, Teacher - Room 10

Life questions that we may ask: Why do members of my church not agree with one another? Do I belong to Christ now? Does God expect me to have total faithfulness in marriage? Am I supposed to have a spiritual gift? Come, let us study and search the answers together, as God led Paul to answer the church at Corinth.
