Summer 2001 Classes
Sunday Morning Adult Classes
Adults with Young Children
Christian Identity
Edward Constantine, Teacher - Fails Hall
The class continues to examine our Christian identity and the practical ways of living out your faith in Christ. Currently we are examining our own attitudes, knowing that we do sin but have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus. The class will continue to focus upon our attitudes towards those in the world and toward fellow brothers and sisters in the faith. We will see how our faith impacts our daily lives at work and at home. Throughout all these everyday challenges, we will examine how prayer, and Bible study, provide the foundation for all we do.
Auditorium Class
The Life of Peter
Jerry Smiley, Teacher - Under Balcony in Auditorium
This class wil be studying about the life of Peter, his writings (1st and 2nd Peter) and his devotion to christ.
Basic Christianity
Bill Betts, Teachers - Room 309
This is a wonderful class for those who are just beginning their walk with the Lord. If you feel the need to take a closer look at the "foundations of faith," this would be a helpful class. For those who would like to ask basic and foundational questions about Christianity, this is the place to be.
Heart to Heart
Resolving Personal Conflict
Gary Brown, Coordinator - Room 301/303
Heart to Heart class for the summer is using John Ortberg’s book, “If You Want To Walk On Water, You’ve Got To Get Out Of The Boat.” Do you make Jesus the focus of your life, even to the point of getting out of your comfort zone? There will be lots of discussion on topics like: facing our fears, looking at what God is calling us to do, and experiencing the power of God in our lives to do things that we are not capable of doing on our own. Even in the storms, of our life, we have to get out of the boat and walk to Jesus by faith. We will also have intercessory prayers in the class.

This class will be using the “On The Level” video series by Lorrain Henke and Hervert Jones. The class deals with the struggles of being a teen and how to deal with those struggles on a physical, social, emotional and intellectual level. The class will consist of a short video and discussion.
Mid-Lifers
Stories Which Never Die: the Parables of Jesus
Dennis Esch - Room 10 & 12
One would search long and hard for many doctrinal dissertations from the lips of Jesus. He taught by dialogue with believers and non-believers in a give and take approach. He taught by example. He taught occasionally by sermon and proclamation. Yet perhaps the most typical approach of Jesus to instructing his disciples was through the use of parables. These simple stories with profound lessons for Christians will serve as the basis of our study during the Summer trimester. Following an introduction to the parables of Jesus, one of the longer of Jesus’ parables will be discussed each week. Modern day applications will be made and class members will be challenged to review their lives in light of these central teachings of our Lord.

Singing Class
David Mills, Coordinator - Watson Hall
An informal gathering of adults and youth who enjoy singing familiar and not-so-familiar songs are sung, with most attention given to actual singing and less to the "rudiments" of music. This class offers a mid-week uplift for those who wish to refresh themselves through praise and thanksgiving to God through the avenue of song. All are invited.
Ephesians
"The Power Of God"
Bailey Forrest, Main Auditorium
In the letter to the Ephesians, Paul references some of the most powerful forces known to the people of this great city. Whether the Roman army, the dividing walls of the law, the temple of Artemis, the class structure of society, mortality, or Zeus himself—the Spirit—inspired Paul shows that God and Father of Jesus Christ is exceedingly more powerful than these, and all forces, that could be imagined. Christians, than, have nothing to fear and everything to gain. They have been chosen by God as His children and share in His surpassing power. This message is vital for us as well. Please join in the study. We will examine Ephesians’ message as best we can in whole and section by section. Homework will be encouraged. This will be a serious group effort. Let us talk and strain over this letter together so that God might increase our understanding of how His power works in us.
